News, Thoughts, and Speed Racer

Journal Entry: Mon May 12, 2008, 10:23 PM
Vuy 'ello Dere my friends!

Couple pieces of News, a couple of Thoughts, and my letter to the movie going world on the Speed Racer movie.

NEWS:
-The 21K giftart for :iconbug-off: is going just fine, I'm just now starting to work on it, due to the fact that,I well... don't plan any of my art work out, I draw one image and take it as I go, My nephew can attest to this as he has seen this in actionon numerous occasions while collabing with me. The trick was doing a gift art without using the LIMBO girls (whom were used in the last 3 Kiriban giftarts)
Should be a pretty good one though. :D

- I'll have my Laptop with me during my trip so I won't miss a beat on any new art that I'm posting here in the next couple of weeks.

- LIMBO vol. 3 part 2 later this week!
-Some of you might be wondering what happened to my artwork here related to FC TRIBE or Tensai Kyo. They are currently being watermarked (for reasons I don't think I need to get into) so the updated images will back back soon.

- :iconirishaficionado: characters from her comic
CAREFREE-DILEMMA have now all been drawn in my current style and keeping in the fun of our over 4 year Collab (Her character, Meuki, is the G/f of my character, Kyo) Another one of her characters, Ishengome, is now dating my character, Shingo, from FC TRIBE. I had always intended on getting Shingo a g/f in the FC TRIBE series, but none of the other female characters really fit his personality. :D

THOUGHTS:
- Grand Theft Auto 4 is not all that great, I played it front to end, with and without cheats, and....It's just not all that good to me. Sorry...GTA Die Hards.

- "Dear Thorn, I know that I am short, bald, and have a big nose, but I like you a lot! Signed, a Secret admirer XXXOOO" HA HA! I read BONE!

-Badz-Maru is still the coolest character in the the Sanrio World (or maybe I just like gloomy looking dreadlocked Penguins)

- It's Official, Call me back to the NARUTO series when Kishimoto-sensei finally stops writing arcs with Sasuke's Emo bitch ass being the focal point. Thank god ROSARIO + VAMPIRE is starting to really pick up at the moment.

- New Rule: Now that I have a pic of myself up here at DA, the "Are you Black w/ dreads?" question is now banned from my page.

And now a personal Rant, this was used in a phone conversation with my DA sister :icons-sama: today.

I saw Speed Racer opening night with a couple of my good Friends who flew in from Japan (Momoko actually dressed as Trixie for the opening, and got wayyyy too many drooling fanboys trying to Holla at her) We saw the movie, clocking in at over 2 hours, and honestly here is my opinion on the entire movie, and the Critics and movie going public who seem to have raging boners when they bash this flick:

This movie is for all intents and purposes what should be used as template for how you do a live action anime film in the future, it should also serve as to what you shouldn't so as well. I think a good 25 min. of the movie should have been cut for pacing reasons, but otherwise, My head was blown and I really enjoyed this movie.
I was not expecting this movie to take itself seriously, and thankfully it didn't, with the wild colors, insane effects, use of Speed lines, sounds, impact lines when people got punched, and the racing scenes are the most craziest racing scenes I have seen, period.
The acting was quite well done, Emile Hirsch played a great Speed, even donning the trademark original cartoon version outfit, during the Crucible race, and god bless em, they kept the original modifications in the Mach 5, right down to the crazy sound whenever he jumped the car.
Look people, I was not expecting the works of Tolstoy when I went to see this, Latif went to get his mind blown by a live action anime and to check his brain at the door.
Personally, this movie was 5 years ahead of it's time and the US movie public in general was NOT ready for this kind of movie, and judging from what reviews, I was proved right.
Look, either you like this kind of stuff or you don't,
just rent it when it comes out on DVD or catch an early matinee. It's a perfectly OK movie, not going to change worlds, but a good fun outing, if you open your mind. If not, hey, your call. but don't knock it if you haven't seen it. and keep in mind, in my career field, I watch movies for a living so I know what I'm talking about.

Well that's my time. Gotta slice of Keylime and Peach Cheesecake I made earlier with my name on it! Check you fine folk later and have a awesome week!

Peace and Much Love!
-Latif
